Family Law in Colorado

Family Law At Cohen & Cohen, P.C., we handle a range of issues within family law, or otherwise known as Domestic Relations. Family law includes issues such as:

We understand how difficult these family law issues can be for everyone involved and we work hard to make the process as painless and fair as possible. Colorado has an extensive set of laws designed to encourage equitable solutions and you may have rights that you’re not even aware of. We’re here to protect those rights and the best interests of you and your family.

Questions surrounding divorce, maintenance, and child custody and support can be very complicated – and the circumstances can change over time. We’ll work with you to set out a plan for your short-, mid-, and long-term goals so you can handle challenges and changes as they come. And of course, we’re always here to answer your questions about family law matters as they come up.

How We Handle Family Law Cases

When you come to us looking for help with a family law matter, we’ll start with a consultation. To get the most of out this consultation, it’s important that you bring any paperwork related to your case. That may include existing court orders, for example, or prenuptial agreements. We’ll go over that paperwork and talk to you about what your goals and needs are. We’ll also give you the information you need about how family law applies to your situation and answer any questions you may have. Then we’ll work with you to decide how you want to move forward.

After that consultation, we’ll move on to filing your claim and moving through the family court procedures. In some cases, you and the other party may be willing to discuss solutions outside of court. We’ll help you negotiate a settlement. And if we can’t reach a settlement, we’ll fight for you in court.

Remember that the facts and circumstances may change throughout this process. We’ll work with you to adjust the strategy and the claim to fit your needs.

Beyond Family Law

In addition to family law, we work in several other practice areas that can help your case. For example, bankruptcy and divorce often go hand in hand. For example, a soon-to-be ex may plan to file a bankruptcy before the divorce and leave you with the debt. Our mediation services can also help you reach a solution without the time and expense of going to court. In other words, we’re here to make your family law case as easy as possible.
